Getting back to the gym after COVID-19 pandemic was honestly a bit nerve wracking. I remember being more cautious than ever, constantly sanitizing everything, including my hands. But all that sanitizer started taking a toll on my skin. It became so dry and irritated that I actually began to worry, could these little cracks and harsh patches put me at risk for other infections?

Naturally, I started moisturizing more, but what really made a difference was something I had not considered at first, the type of soap I was using.

During my search for skin friendly products, I dove into reading about soaps and their different properties, and it paid off. My skin is now healthier, more balanced, and better protected. So I wanted to share a few things I have learned along the way.

Defense soap: This is a popular choice among athletes, particularly those in combat sports, due to its tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil content, which are known for their antiseptic and antifungal properties. It is designed to help prevent and combat common skin issues like athlete’s foot, ringworm, and staph infections.

Charcoal soap: The porous nature of charcoal helps draw out impurities, excess oil, and sweat, making it ideal for athletes who may have more oily or acne-prone skin due to training.

Antibacterial soap: These soaps can be effective in reducing body odour by killing bacteria that contribute to unpleasant smells.

Other options: Arnica soap, which is natural and organic, can be helpful for soothing sore muscles after workouts. Additionally, they are medicated antifungal soaps designed to treat and prevent fungal infections.

Conclusion: Soap is not just a quick rinse, there is a real research and development behind many of the products we often overlook. I never realised how much the right soap could impact my skin until I started paying attention. Investing in the right product for your skin and lifestyle is absolutely worth it.
